Dear Friends of Tlamacazapa,

This week (November 25 – 30) we are inviting you to take a vow of silence with us to raise money and awareness about Tlamacazapa. Whether you decide to do this vow for only a few hours, a few days, or are interested in joining our team for the long-run, we’re excited to partner with you for the upcoming week. Prepare to be a channel through which the
story of Tlama will be communicated. Prepare to understand what it means to listen, and prepare to grow and learn. What happens when our silence becomes the voice of Tlama? The answer lies with us, and is limitless!

We have created an Information Packet with info on Tlamacazapa, the vow process and pledge sheets to help you collect donations. We ask that you take your time to peruse through the material and then decide your commitment. Since we are preparing packages for everyone, we need to know numbers.

So, if you do decide to take on this vow with us, please email us the start and end date of your intended vow before Sunday night (November 25). Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.

“Silence is argument carried out by other means.” — Che

This week from November 25th to 30th, McMaster students from every faculty will be partnering with Walking with Tlama to take a vow of silence. We choose silence because we want to hear the story of Tlamacazapa. We recognize the voicelessness of the people of Tlama and by doing this vow of silence, we hope to understand it better. Above all, we want others to know about this forgotten village.

Walking With Tlama now has a home on the web! For those who don’t know what we’re about, read below:

Comprised of dedicated and tireless mcmaster university students, the OPIRG Mexico Working Group strives to be the voice of Tlamacazapa and Caminamos Juntos in the Hamilton and GTA. Our mandate is to raise funds for CJ and awareness about the specific issues in Tlamacazapa as well as their implications in a global context. We do this by giving presentations, conducting workshops, organizing fundraising events and selling baskets, quilts, jewellery, purses and other (fair trade) products from the village of Tlamacazapa. You can help by purchasing the products, making cash donations, and/or asking us to present to your group. If you want to learn more please visit www.caminamosjuntos.org and/or write to us at opirgmexico@gmail.com.
